A total of 5 women have recently come forward to report incidents of being drugged at parties near University Hill. The Boulder Police Department has been investigating these incidents since two women were hospitalized in October after unknowingly ingesting drugs in their alcoholic beverages at parties near the campus. Boulder Police have not identified any specific groups or fraternities at this time because there were multiple parties going on at the same time that evening.
Predators often slip drugs into unsuspecting women’s drinks in an attempt to incapacitate and sexually assault them. Many of these drugs have no taste and no odor at all, making it even more difficult to detect. Police have recommended that people never leave their drinks unattended and never accept them from strangers or consume them from common open containers.
There are numerous “date rape drugs” on the market that incapacitate victims, such as Ketamine, GHB, and Roofies. They are often called club drugs, party drugs or date rape drugs because they lower inhibitions and often render victims unconscious. Under Colorado law 18-13-123 C.R.S., it is a crime to knowingly cause another person to consume GHB or Ketamine or other type of drug. If you are convicted of putting a date rape drug in someone’s drink, you could face the following penalties and consequences:
- Level 3 Felony Offense
- 2-4 years in prison
- Fines up to $500,000
- Level 2 Felony Offense if you have a prior conviction

In addition to facing penalties for putting a date rape drug in someone’s drink, you will also face penalties and consequences for any other criminal activity that occurred while that person was incapacitated. For example, if you put GHB in your date’s drink and then had sex with them that evening, you could be found guilty of both Unlawfully Administering GHB, as well as Sexual Assault.
If you are facing charges of unlawfully administering a date rape drug, it is important to understand the severity of these charges and the consequences you may face. In some situations, you may be able to fight against these accusations and an experienced Boulder criminal defense attorney can advocate aggressively to protect your freedom. For instance, you may not have realized that you were giving someone GHB, or the drugs may have been found by the police during an illegal search and seizure.
