Ryan Cole Stone was accused of stealing a vehicle in Longmont with a 4-year-old boy in the backseat. He then carjacked two other vehicles before leading authorities on a rush-hour car chase from Longmont to Lone Tree. During the high-speed chase, Stone wrecked several vehicles and injured a state trooper. He now faces 26 charges in connection with the incident and could face a minimum of 16 years in prison and a maximum of 96 years in prison if convicted.
Chase Related Charges
At times, the high-speed rush hour car chase through metro Denver reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. Stone now faces attempted murder charges for purposefully hitting and seriously injuring Colorado State Patrol Trooper Bellaman Hee. He also faces counts of assault, leaving the scene of an accident, robbery, vehicular eluding, aggravated motor theft, and two counts of child abuse. The televised chase ended with the suspect running from the crash and collapsing in the snow as the police bore down on him.
Vehicular eluding is a serious crime by itself. Although it is portrayed in video games, like Grand Theft Auto, and in movies, car chases are very dangerous and can seriously injure innocent men and women, as well as police officers.
Consequences for vehicular eluding
Consequences for vehicular eluding alone include:
- Probation
- Prison sentence up to 6 years
- Mandatory parole up to 2 years
- Fines up to $6,000
- And more
Due to the seriousness of this crime, it is imperative that you contact an experienced Denver criminal defense lawyer immediately if you are accused of vehicular eluding. Your attorney may be able to have these charges reduced to a lesser moving violation, such as driving recklessly or traffic eluding. If you are convicted of vehicular eluding, you may spend significant time in prison—especially in situations where serious bodily injury or death resulted from your negligence. You may also find yourself facing vehicular homicide, or vehicular manslaughter charges as well.
